For UK Carpenters

Doors, floors, kitchens – and HMRC.

Built for sole-trader carpenters running first fix, second fix, kitchens, and bespoke joinery. Track every job, log timber and ironmongery, send pro quotes, file HMRC MTD.

If you're a sole trader carpenter,
some of this sounds familiar.

Graft was built specifically because none of the existing tools fit how a carpenter actually works.

Bespoke jobs go over time, every time

Quoted 4 days, took 6. Why? You don't really know – time wasn't logged.

×

Timber prices change weekly

Last quote used £4/m. This week it's £4.80. You quoted from memory. Margin compressed.

×

Kitchens span weeks, materials in dribs and drabs

8 trips to Howdens. 4 to the timber yard. Receipts in the van, in the toolbox, on the kitchen worktop.

MTD coming April 2026

If you're earning over £50k self-employed, quarterly tax submissions become legal.

What changes when you switch to Graft.

Designed for one person on a phone, on a job, with dirty hands. Not for an accountant in an office.

/ 01

Phase-based job tracking

First fix, second fix, snagging – split a kitchen into phases. Time and materials logged per phase.

/ 02

Live timber pricing per quote

Update unit costs once. Quotes recalculate. No more under-quoting on yesterday's price.

/ 03

Receipts auto-categorised

Howdens, Travis, B&Q – Graft reads the slip and links it to the right job.

/ 04

MTD ready out of the box

Direct HMRC submission. Quarterly figures auto-prepped. One tap, done.

Carpenters tax, sorted.

Power tools, timber, a workshop and a van — a chippy's outgoings are all allowable expenses. Graft records them on the job so your Making Tax Digital quarterly return builds itself.

/ 01

Power tools

Circular and track saws, routers, planers, nail guns and drills.

/ 02

Hand tools

Chisels, planes, squares, clamps and marking tools.

/ 03

Materials

Timber, sheet goods, ironmongery, fixings and adhesives.

/ 04

Workshop & van

Workshop rent or running costs, van finance, fuel and insurance.

/ 05

Consumables

Blades, bits, glue, sandpaper and finishing products.

/ 06

Insurance & PPE

Public liability, tools cover, dust masks, boots and ear defenders.

Carpenters & Making Tax Digital.

Do carpenters need MTD software?

Sole trader carpenters earning over £50,000 must file quarterly digital updates from April 2026. Graft logs materials and job costs and submits the return for you.

What can a carpenter claim as expenses?

Power and hand tools, timber and materials, workshop and van costs, consumables and insurance. Graft attaches receipts to the right job as you go.

Does Graft support CIS for carpenters?

Yes. First and second-fix site carpentry is within CIS, so Graft records any tax deducted at source for your quarterly figures.

Less than a pint a week.
