For UK Painters & Decorators

Prep, paint, finish – and file your tax.

Built for painters and decorators running domestic and commercial jobs. Track prep time, count coats, log paint and materials, send branded invoices, file HMRC MTD without an accountant.

If you're a sole trader painter & decorator,
some of this sounds familiar.

Graft was built specifically because none of the existing tools fit how a painter & decorator actually works.

×

Prep time always under-quoted

Filling, sanding, masking – half the job. Customers look at painted walls. You never get paid for the prep.

×

Paint volume guesswork

10L Dulux for the lounge? 12L? You bought 15 just in case. Where did the extra go on the books?

×

Quotes lose to the cheap and cheerful

You include prep, two coats, dust sheets. The other lot quote 'a paint job'. You're not winning on speed.

×

MTD from April 2026

Quarterly tax filings become law. £200 fines for missed deadlines.

What changes when you switch to Graft.

Designed for one person on a phone, on a job, with dirty hands. Not for an accountant in an office.

/ 01

Prep + paint as separate line items

Quote prep hours and paint hours separately. Customer sees the value. You get paid for both.

/ 02

Paint calculator built in

m² of wall × coats × coverage = litres needed. No more 'I'll take an extra tin'.

/ 03

Branded PDF quotes

Your logo, your bank details, your terms. Looks like a business – because it is.

/ 04

MTD submissions in one tap

Quarterly tax figures ready every 3 months. No accountant. No surprise bill in January.

Painters & decorators tax, sorted.

Paint, brushes, sprayers, access kit — a decorator's materials and tools are all deductible. Graft logs them per job so Making Tax Digital is one tap, not a night of receipts.

/ 01

Tools

Brushes, rollers, sprayers, spray tips, scrapers and fillers knives.

/ 02

Painters & decorators & Making Tax Digital.

Do painters and decorators need Making Tax Digital?

If you're a sole trader decorator earning over £50,000 you must keep digital records and file quarterly from April 2026. Graft does both from your phone.

What expenses can a decorator claim?

Brushes, rollers and sprayers, paint and materials, access equipment, van and fuel, and workwear. Graft logs each against the job for you.

Does Graft handle CIS for decorators?

It can. Decorating as part of construction work on site falls under CIS — Graft records any deduction taken at source so your figures reconcile.
